William G. T. Shedd, D.D., wrote that the "...views of the Ancient Church concerning the origin of the soul ran in three directions; though not with equal strength, or to an equal extent. The three theories that appear in the Patristic period are: Pre-existence, Creationism, and Traducianism...." "The theory of Pre-existence teaches that all human souls were created at the beginning of creation,-- not that of this world simply, but of all worlds. All finite spirits were made simultaneously, and prior to the creation of matter. The intellectual universe precedes the sensible universe. The souls of men, consequently, existed before the creation of Adam. The pre-existent life was Pre-Adamite. Men were angelic spirits at first. Because of their apostasy in the angelic sphere, they were transferred, as a punishment for their sin, into material bodies in this mundane sphere, and are now passing through a disciplinary process, in order to be restored, all of them without exception, to their pre-existent and angelic condition. These bodies, to which they are joined, come into existence by the ordinary course of physical propagation; so that the sensuous and material part of human nature has no existence previous to Adam. "According to several Old Testament passages (see Ezekiel 28, Isaiah 14, and Genesis 1), prior to the creation of man, God set up His government in the spiritual realm with governing principalities. Three of the most powerful of these entities were archangels. Their names were Michael, Gabriel, and Lucifer.

Many people today regard this history as mere myth. Especially in the western hemisphere and the industrialized nations, very little credence is given to the existence of a spiritual realm. In these nations utilitarianism and materialism tend to pervade the consciousness of the average citizen. For many the spiritual realm seems to have little relevance to their daily needs.

Nevertheless, Scripture records that God did create spiritual beings to govern His kingdom. The most powerful and talented of all was Lucifer. The prophet Ezekiel was given great understanding into Lucifer's beauty, authority and power (Ezekiel 28:13-19).

Lucifer was God's chief assistant, and had a vast network of subordinates that assisted him in the work of governing with which he was charged. We would do well to consider this powerful position Lucifer had in God's government.

He was the angel that covered, or was established to guard. His great beauty and splendour were unparalleled, his musical talent unmatched in all the universe. He was the master of commerce and trade.

Although God in His foreknowledge recognized the troubles the future held, He entrusted Lucifer with great knowledge, insight, wisdom and understanding into the workings of God's kingdom.

Lucifer's pride in himself was insatiable. When it caused him to seek the very throne of God, to attempt to usurp and overthrow God's rule, he was cast out of his position and imprisoned on a speck of dust called Earth. What a judgement! His freedom and authority had spanned the infinite heavens, and now he was a convict imprisoned on a tiny planet somewhere in space.

God's anger would not rest with this judgement alone. The disloyalty of Lucifer created a tremendous void in the government of God. Scripture records that one third of all the created beings in God's government were cast out with him. Lucifer was able to carry off with his rebellion one third of the angelic host (Revelation 12:4).

The enormity of this loss, though on a lesser scale, would be like losing the U.S. Congress and still trying to run the government of the United States. The government literally would be unable to function properly.

The Lord wasn't taken by surprise, however. He had already predetermined a plan of recovery and restoration. He created man to take Lucifer's lost position. This added to Lucifer's judgement as he would have to witness his replacement being raised up before him.

When man was created he was assailed by Lucifer and deceived and enticed into following him. Lucifer on Earth is known as Satan. Since the beginning of human history Satan has been working to gain total control over the Earth by setting up a government that he would rule and in which he would be worshipped. The same wickedness he demonstrated when he originally sought God's throne, he is exhibiting on the Earth.

God in His majesty and foreknowledge intercepted Satan's attempt to destroy mankind by sending Jesus to rescue the human race. With his government gaining momentum Satan, the deceiver, would have us believe that Christ's rescue mission failed. There are even religious cults that claim this to be so, but it is far from the truth.

In the face of Satan's New World Order, Jesus Christ is calling out a special people to follow him. These elect people, whom He calls His saints, are being raised up to be transformed into the image of Jesus Christ as they live out their lives awaiting the appearance of their King. Discerning the contrast between God's kingdom and Satan's is part of the process of being transformed and following Jesus.

Further, as the saints are being developed to fulfill their eternal destiny with Christ they will face conflict and resistance from the forces allied with Satan's movement toward a One-World Order. The saints are required to resist the devil, and stand for righteousness. They are instructed to pray, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10). They are required to "fight the good fight", (1 Timothy 6:12) and to "not love the world" (1 John 2:15).

Without God's viewpoint and perspective on the world, the subjective predicament and pressure from environmental factors becomes so overwhelming that it becomes exceedingly difficult to stand strong in faith. God wants His saints to understand the enemy's plan so they will resist his deception and maintain the vigilance of faith.

"The majority of the Creation references in the Old Testament portray the Creation not as a peaceful act, but as the result of a “divine conflict” in heaven. In this “divine conflict” Creation scenario, Earth is seen as having been created as the result of some sort of heavenly cataclysm, symbolized in the Bible as a battle between God and a “dragon.” In other words, the Israelites actually believed that, in the beginning, God had defeated this “dragon,” and created the heavens and Earth from its dead body. Some biblical scholars have argued that this belief actually formed the very foundation of Israelite worship. As Frank Moore Cross, Jr. explains, “The central or constitutive movement in the early cultus was the celebration of the enthronement of Yahweh as King and Creator of cosmos by virtue of His victory over His enemy or enemies in a cosmogonic struggle.”1 This “cosmogonic struggle,” as described in such passages as Psalm 74:12-17, Isaiah 51:9-15, and Job 9:6-13, refers to a conflict between God and a dragon that is closely linked with the Creation in the Old Testament. And even in Genesis 1, where “the dragon” is not directly mentioned, echoes of the divine conflict can be clearly seen under closer examination. This “divine conflict” theme resurfaces in the New Testament, in the Book of Revelation (Rev. 12–13; 20), where war between God and the dragon similarly defines the scenario surrounding the Second Coming of Christ. Isaiah confirms this, explaining that the Creation battle with the dragon will be repeated in the end-times, when God will crush the dragon forever (Isa. 27:1). The Four Bible "Creations" and the Four "Worlds"

In the Holy Bible there are four (4) distinct and separate "Creations" of the heaven and the Earth and four (4) Biblically defined "Worlds" or Ages. In chronological order, they are:

1: The Initial Creation of the "heaven and earth" (Genesis 1:1 & Job 38:4-11 KJV) - The Angel's World (Initial Full Creation)

2: The First Regeneration of the "heavens and the earth" (Genesis 2:1 & 2:4 KJV) - Man's World (Regeneration)

Pre-existing conditions: "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."

3: The Second Regeneration of the "heavens and earth" (Isaiah 65:17-25 KJV) - The Kingdom World (Regeneration)

Time frame: Following the Great Tribulation and before the one-thousand years reign of the Lord Jesus Christ upon the Earth (Revelation 20)

Pre-existing conditions: "I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger."

4: The new Heaven and new Earth of Eternity (Revelation 21:1 KJV) - The Eternal World (A New Creation)

Time frame: Eternity following the Great White Throne Judgment

Pre-existing conditions: "And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works."

Creations 1 through 3 involve the Original Earth and TWO Regenerations.

Creation 4 is an entirely New Heaven and Earth.

What would you say to someone who asks you why a loving God would even create a place called hell?

What if we were able to answer difficult questions like:

If God really loves us then why do so many people have to suffer?

If God really loves us then why doesn’t He destroy evil and the devil?

Why are some people born into easy lives and other born into difficult lives?
